FIMU hosts first YAG training
Youth and coaches from grassroots sports clubs have come together to attend the first Youth Active Groups (YAGs) training organised by the Finnish Multicultural Sports Federation (FIMU) on 3 February in Helsinki.
Participants were given general information about the project and its implementation stages. Their roles, specific tasks and subsequent training was also addressed.
Trained YAGs will be responsible for helping out in the planning, tutoring, documentation and evaluation of the pilot sessions for children and youth at clubs in Helsinki and neighbouring cities, including 09 Helsinki Human Rights, KOHMU ry and Sahan-seura ry.
The session follows a partnership between FIMU and the University of Jyväskylä to use the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility through Physical Activity (TPSR) model to train the YAGs.
The methodological approach is aimed at implementing a responsibility-based programme to further the physical activity of children, coaching multicultural groups and promote peer-on-peer education.
